Challenges and Opportunities To Be Highlighted At Brexit Seminar

North East SME’s Get Help To Make Informed Choices

A series of two seminars aimed at helping SME’s to make informed decisions about their businesses when Brexit arrives are due to take place in Newcastle.
The seminars will be hosted by the Business and Intellectual Property Centre at Newcastle City Library and will uniquely bring together experts in law, finance, economics and procurement to give business owners an easy to understand overview of what might happen once the UK leaves the European Union.
The first event on Thursday 19 July entitled “Countdown to Brexit” will examine current thinking and look at opportunities and issues as they stand now. SME’s will be given information and support to help them make the right decisions for their individual businesses and to plan ahead for changes that could affect them.
I have pointed out that Brexit will create a change in the business environment that businesses must adapt to and, potentially, opportunities they need to consider. We won’t be addressing the politics of Brexit or promoting a particular view – rather
This stimulating and very practical event will include  l will include talks by experts from the Bank of England, HSBC, the Intellectual Property Office, an economist and legal and procurement experts, plus Brexit specialist Bryan Ellis from Longhougton in Northumberland.

After a networking lunch, sessions will turn to exploring new opportunities with talks by the North East Chamber of Commerce’s  International Trade Team, The Intellectual Property Office, business finance specialists, including the North East Fund experts and further legal perspectives. The North East Chamber of Comnmerce will also  offer their view on the changes that leaving the EU may have on SME’s.
Each session will be interactive and participants will have the opportunity to take part in Q&A workshops with the speakers.
John Musham from Business and Intellectuial Property Centre (BIPC) is urging businesses to come along to the event to find out about the issues affecting them and to discover how to get practical support and advice from the BIPC’s ‘Pathways to Innovation’ project, funded by the European Regional Development Fund and designed to support innovative SMEs in the region to grow, explore new markets and develop new ideas. .
“We’ve planned an easy to understand seminar specifically to help North East businesses hear for themselves what may happen when Brexit arrives. It will focus on the facts, consider what the likely impact on business will be and suggest actions that SMEs need to take now.
“There’s a lot of confusion in the media and we aim to cut through politics and press speculation to help our business community make an educated, informed choice that will carry them through this period of uncertainty. This the biggest change to U.K. economic circumstances for forty years and therefore companies have to find time to get up to speed on the implications for their business. The seminar could be invaluable for the future of their business.”
The second seminar will be held on Thursday 15 November and will focus on the detail of Brexit once more information is known.
