Anne – The first lady and the president

Jun 4, 2010

A leading clinical and cognitive behaviour hypnotherapist who, as part of her work often helps people deal with phobias such as the fear of speaking in public has proven that she can talk the talk by using her cognitive skills in a different way.
Anne Morrison from Whitley Bay has become the first female president of the Tyneside Speakers Club, part of the national Association of Speakers Clubs organisation, a remarkable accomplishment considering the club only opened it’s doors to women in 2008 with Anne herself being the first female member.
The club meets between September and May, on the first and third Wednesdays of the month in Whitley Bay, to help members’ improve their public speaking skills by examining the elements of a good speech, the use of gestures and body language and other technical aspects associated with the art of delivering a good speech. Members represent a cross section of the community of all ages from teachers to bank managers and retired people to those who simply want to increase their self confidence and speaking skills.
“Surveys have shown that the top fear that many people have is speaking in public,” said Anne. “Even death comes third in the survey so it shows how seriously people worry about talking at weddings, social functions and business presentations. The club is an ideal way to help people identify their fears and work towards gaining skills and experiences to help them overcome them.”
The fear of speaking in public is only one of the phobias that Anne helps people to overcome in her professional career. Phobias take many forms from fear of flying to fear of spiders to fear of vomit and usually appear irrational to the outsider and difficult to understand but to the person who has the phobia it can have a major impact on their life. As well as face to face hypnotherapy sessions, Anne has also developed a series of internet based courses and MP3s to help support her clients in the comfort of their own homes.
“I appreciate that not every one has the time to work with me in one to one sessions but I can still help them start to make the changes they want to make in their life by using self hypnosis MP3s,” she said. “These are very safe to use and assist you to manage your thoughts. This helps you to respond in different ways to the issues and situations that are concerning you with the added bonus of making you more relaxed and calm.”
