Berwick business group opens its doors to
Mary Portas may be injecting much needed investment into Berwick’s economy, but another organisation is encouraging the town’s business community to work together by networking and keeping business local.
The members of the newly formed Travers Chapter of BNI (Business Network International) meet over breakfast every Friday at Marshal Meadows Hotel to generate business for themselves and each other. To raise the profile of the group and to encourage people to buy local goods and services, the group are holding an open morning on Friday 24th August where they will also welcome the Mayor of Berwick to the breakfast table.
BNI was founded in the 1980’s by American management consultant, Ivan Misner who created a highly structured referral group with the philosophy of “givers gain”. Now, the organisation has grown to more than 6850 chapters with 139,971 members worldwide passing 6.9 million referrals worth 2.8 billion euros.
.BNI Travers’s Chapter Director, Danny Finlay said, “BNI really does work. Chapter members have the advantage of knowing that there is no business competition amongst other members as only one representative from a particular profession is allowed,” he said, “Membership of BNI brings with it a huge competitive advantage as joining a Chapter effectively locks out the competition and that is why our members re-join year after year.”
The Travers Chapter is currently looking to expand its membership and have vacancies for a number of professions including a builder, solicitor and a health and wellness expert. Members of the Travers BNI Chapter represent a diverse range of occupations including a motor engineer, a life coach, an independent financial advisor and an accountant.
“Travers Chapter is a vibrant group of people who want to help each other achieve even better results for their businesses. It’s much more than a networking group and we actively look for referrals for each other which will lead to tangible monetary benefits,” said Mr Finlay. “We are looking forward to welcoming the Border’s business community to our event and anyone who wishes to come along to Marshal Meadows on the 24th August can contact me to secure their place on 07836 649 538.”
BNI also has chapters in Alnwick and North Berwick.
