Jul 16, 2015

Award winning Newcastle filmmaker Geoff Wonfor is offering an exclusive musical treat for all Tyneside music fans. In conjunction with TyneIdols, Geoff is hosting a VIP preview of a TV special, ‘Jools Holland – A Big Band Special’ at the Boulevard on St James Boulevard in Newcastle on Tuesday 21st July.

The concert, which was filmed in the spectacular Empress Ballroom in Blackpool last month features the Jools Holland Rhythm and Blues Orchestra with special guests, Ruby Turner, Marc Almond, Rumer, Louise Marshall and Mabel Ray. It features classic tunes by BB King, Duke Ellington, Big Joe Turner, Fats Waller and many more.

Geoff Wonfor who produced and directed the show for the BBC will be on hand before the screening for a Q&A with ex Lindisfarne drummer Ray Laidlaw. They will chat about their work in music and Geoff’s long-standing relationship with Jools Holland since the 1980’s when the ground breaking TV series ‘The Tube’ was transmitted every Friday night from Tyne Tees Television on City Road.

Geoff said, ‘This concert is one of the best things I’ve ever done, I put together a fantastic crew, mostly from the North East and we’ve created something very special. The postproduction was done at The East Wing in Newcastle and it proves once again what a fantastic pool of talent we have here. It will be a real buzz to share this musical gem with some good pals in such a jumping venue.’

Geoff chose Boulevard as the venue to preview his latest project after launching the 2014 Sunday for Sammy DVD here:

“Boulevard use only the best in audio visual kit and watching work filmed live on their big screen is pretty close to the experience of actually being at the original gig.”

Doors open at 7:30pm. Entry is free and by guest list only, the venue on this occasion has a limited capacity of 200 however a small amount of tickets are still available. Anyone wishing to apply for tickets should submit their names via email info@tyneidols.com.
