Headlining the open-air event is County Durham born, Graeme Danby who has performed in several of the world’s leading opera houses including the Royal Opera House, La Scala Milan, English National Opera and the Walt Disney Concert Hall Los Angeles. As well as performing his bass operatic songs, Graeme is well known for his interpretation of popular “Geordie” songs.
The town’s Beaconsfield Operatic Society will also perform as will popular vocalist Jen Stevens and to add a traditional feel, the Ellington Colliery Brass Band will play classic tunes in the way that only a brass band can sound. There will also be street performers including Princess Penelope of the Swans, Fairy Elfin, stilt-walking Palace Guards and a few surprises too.
Graeme is looking forward to the event which will see him return to Blyth after the successful Proms in the Park Concert last Autumn.
“It’s a lovely feeling to perform on home turf, you can’t beat a Northumberland crowd and I’m looking forward to helping people celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee,” he said.
“Blyth Town Council are once again providing quality, free entertainment free to the public and I’m honoured to play this concert for the people of Blyth.”
Blyth Town Council Mayor, Cllr Warren Taylor said,” We’ve booked good weather for this afternoon of music with well-loved songs from each decade of the Queen’s reign. The performers are all of a very high standard and will entertain people of all ages. Don’t forget to bring a chair and a picnic or order one from Mr Ridley’s, the café in the park and enjoy celebrating the Queen’s Jubilee in style.”
