Bob’s Father’s Day Ticket for Sammy

Jun 7, 2019

It’s going to be another Father’s Day by the telly for one Gateshead pensioner who is one of Sunday for Sammy’s biggest fans.

Last year, 77-year-old Bob Burdis was delighted to discover a special golden ticket inside his Sunday for Sammy 2018 DVD cover entitling him to four free tickets to the forthcoming 20th Birthday Show on February 23rd 2020.’

Bob’s daughter Nicola Devlin from Stanley gave her dad the DVD for Father’s Day as he is such a big fan and says he never tires of watching the three-hour long music, comedy and variety spectacular.

Sunday for Sammy, unofficially known as the Geordie Command Performance is a celebration of North Eastern culture staged to raise funds to support the next generation of North Eastern performers with training, expenses and equipment.

The 2018 DVD contains appearances from the cast regulars with surprise guests including Brenda Blethyn and Johnny Vegas, musical highlights featuring Trevor Horn singing “Video Killed the Radio Star,” Ralph McTell performing a poignant version of “Streets of London” and a crowd pleasing duet between Joe McElderry and Jersey Boys singer Ryan Molloy performing “Don’t Let The Sun Go Down On Me.”

Show producer Ray Laidlaw was delighted that a real fan had won the prize.

“If anyone deserves this, it’s Bob. He’s an avid fan and has supported the charity since he went to the very first show in 2000. The DVD is a great Father’s Day present and while this year we can’t promise any free tickets we can guarantee a fantastic viewing experience that any dad would be delighted to receive.”

All Sunday for Sammy DVDs including the 2018 show are available from JG Windows in Newcastle and MetroCentre.
