Northumberland Theatre Company Presents:

Bottle Bank Band LIVE at the Dovecote Centre, Amble

on Saturday June 29th2019

If you thought bottle banks were just about recycling old glass, get ready to rethink that idea when you hear Bottle Bank Band at the Dovecote Centre in Amble on Saturday June 29thfrom 7.30pm.

A cocktail of traditional Tyneside fiddle music infused with wit, captivating harmonies and compelling rhythmic drive, this band creates an experience that will thrill traditional music fans as well as those with an ear for a modern twist.

The fiddle quartet comprises of Sophy Ball, Chloe Jones, David Jones and Stewart Hardy, each an established musician with an outstanding reputation. Their unique individual sounds, within Stewart Hardy’s mesmerising arrangements, combine to create a musical landscape guaranteed to take the audience on a journey they won’t forget.

Stewart Hardy says, “We often get asked about the band’s unusual name. It actually comes from the Bottle Bank area in Gateshead which was a one-time home to Tyneside’s famous fiddling son, James Hill. Hill became known as the Paganini of Gateshead as his compositions were so complex and compelling.  Our repertoire includes Hill’s music and is firmly rooted in the North East of England – a region that enjoys a centuries-old tradition of fiddle playing. Our music has one foot in this rich past, but we also have a contemporary voice.”

Bottle Bank Band is the latest creative talent to be welcomed to Amble by the Northumberland Theatre Company, who have a mission to bring more arts-based experiences and culture to the area. NTC is a small-scale touring theatre company based at the Dovecote Centre with a reputation for producing professionally-staged theatre shows around the country. These productions are usually staged in village halls and community centres in rural towns and villages.

Artistic Director, Gillian Hambledon from NTC says, “Bottle Bank Band have a really unique sound that appeals to so many people. If you don’t leave the gig still tapping your feet and humming the melodies, we’ll be surprised! Our region has such an impressive history of musical talent. This band’s instinctive understanding of traditional North-East playing gives voice to a truly special musical adventure which pulls the audience in and immerses them in a timeless story.”

‘Drink in’ the atmosphere and excitement of the evening – you can bank on having a night to remember. Tickets for the event are £10 (£5 for under 18s) and are available from the Dovecote Centre in Amble or via their Facebook page.
