Did we fool you?

Apr 1, 2018

Hope you enjoyed our April fool’s joke shown below – apologies for the terrible French translations of the names – Henry the Hoover and Shields Pier  and of course the boat’s name was an anagram of April fool.

It’s no joke however  that you still have time to see some great movies at Newcastle IFF.

A unique movie partnership is coming to Tyneside in 2019.

Organisers of the Newcastle International Film Festival have announced that next year they will twin with the world-famous Cannes Film Festival to bring a touch of the Riviera to the Tyne.

Next year’s festival promises to be a truly continental event with contributions already in the can from renowned French directors, Henri D’Vacumne and Pierre de Shiels.

North East actor and director Craig Conway who is on the board of the Newcastle International Film Festival is looking forward to the unique celluloid partnership.

“This is a major coup not only for our festival but for the North East in general. The amount of visitors coming to the region will benefit our shops and hotels and hopefully will lead to a major increase in employment in our area.”

The partnership has added benefits for tourism as the Cannes super rich jet set have expressed interest in travelling to the Tyne for the festival.

“We’ve already had enquiries from a major superyacht management company from Cannes asking if the Tyne can accommodate up to 15 superyachts for a two week period,” said Craig.

Craig has already been in touch with marinas in the area and is now looking at creating additional berthing space alongside the old Swan Hunter’s shipyard in Wallsend.

“What better place for visiting millionaires to visit than the banks of the Tyne at Wallsend? These people are obviously film buffs and will revel in the fact that they are berthed alongside the very spot where a car was driven off the ferry landing into the Tyne in Get Carter with Sir Michael Caine.”

The Swan Hunter site has also been the setting for ITV drama ‘Joe Maddison’s War’, starring Kevin Whately and Robson Green, the movie Flutter starring Hollywood actor Billy Zane and comedian Ricky Tomlinson and ITV drama Vera adding to the appeal of the location to visitors to the region.

Already one vessel has booked its place on the Tyne. The French registred “La Fir Polo” boasts five staterooms , a helicopter landing pad and a gymnasium.

“We’re looking forward to showing some fantastic movies from all over the world and by default  hosting our very own superyacht event. The Tyne from Hebburn to Wallsend and up to Newcastle will be the place to be for those in the the right circles next year,” said Craig.”

The first superyacht “La Fir Polo” will arrive in the Tyne on 1st April 2019.
