A North Tyneside wine business has popped an extra special cork in celebration of its expansion and pairing with one of Northumberland’s leading wine merchants leading to a rare vintage for 2019 and beyond.
North Shields based Guest Wines have joined forces with Ponteland’s Michael Jobling Wines to provide an even bigger and better service to their customers continuing to trade as Guest Wines.
Kelvyn and Ruth Guest started their company after discovering a mutual appreciation of wine when they met on holiday in Peru. The couple found they had a mutual appreciation of wine and that ultimately led to their marriage and the formation of their business.
Guest Wines developed a niche business in the region breaking down the barriers and formality of learning about wine andhave linked up with prestigious venues and celebrities including wine expert, Oz Clarke. They have also studied to earn internationally recognised Wine and Spirit Education Trust qualifications and have worked in vineyards and wineries in South Africa, Portugal, France and England to learn how wine is produced.
Earlier this year, the couple brought onboard Lian Zhang as a Director. Originally from Qinghai Province in China, Lian came to the UK eight years ago to study her Master’s in Business and Marketing and has gained valuable experience in the wine industry. She is currently studying for her WSET Diploma.
The companyhas expanded into the wholesale of wines, spirits and beers with a niche portfolio of unusual items like Sake and low and non-alcoholic beverages. They are also leading authorities on the production and use of English wines.
Like Guest Wines, Ponteland based Michael Jobling Wines have established an exemplary name within the industry. Run by Michael and his niece, Torie Jackson they began trading in 1988 with a modest 45 wines which has now grown to a carefully chosen but eclectic list of around 300. With Michael joining Guest Wines on a new journey together, they willwork with local and national independent trade who can benefit from their flexibility and reliability as an established and reputable provider. They also cater business to business on corporate events and offer tastings and events to the public.
“We’ve always had a good working relationship with Michael and Torie who run Michael Jobling Wines,” said Ruth. “It made good financial and business sense to team up together to offer a bigger and an even more customer facing side to our services.”
Michael is also looking forward to the future. “I’ve known Kelvyn and Ruth for many years now and it’s refreshing to see someone else share my enthusiasm, joy and passion for wine. We are delighted to be working together which means that we can carry on in the same spirit that we did 30 years ago when Michael Jobling Wines was formed.”
Like a good vintage, the 2019 nouveau fusion of Guest Wines and Michael Jobling Wines looks set to mature with clarity and good taste for the region’s wine drinkers.
