The award-winning Harbour View Fish and Chip Restaurant and Takeaway in Seaton Sluice has taken on a new member of staff for Christmas. The new team member isn’t there to help cope with the high demand for their food or to enhance the already excellent customer service – he’s there to put a smile on people’s faces.
Chip is an Elf who gets up to mischief every day and posts his antics on the restaurant’s Facebook page in a unique Advent calendar.
The idea came from restaurant manager Sharron Carr who decided to add a bit of fun into the run up to Christmas. So far Chip has been posted in a variety of situations including sitting on a small boat with the caption “A boatload of Chips,” inside a tortilla, “Do you want your Chips wrapped?” and in a video showing a Christmas bauble hypnotically passing his eyes with the caption “the Chipnotist”
“It’s been fun thinking of situations to put Chip and even more fun thinking of a suitable pun,” said Sharron. Our customers are checking the Facebook page every day and telling us which they like the best.”
Sharron has been hard at work making props to go into the photographs too.
“My “Blue Peter” making, and crafting skills have come into their own, I’ve made a bowling alley out of a fish and chip box and decorated the windows using glitter and fake snow. One or two of the photos have been a little bit on the naughty side but our social media readers seem to love Chip no matter what he does.”
Owner Waseem Mir says that the stats on the Facebook page have increased a lot since Chip made an appearance.
“Each post is getting a reach of around 1000 each day, we’re getting more followers and likes and people are having a laugh leading up to Christmas. We’re renowned for our good food, particularly the size of our fresh Icelandic Cod which customers refer to as “the whale,” but now we may be better known for our Chip,” he said.
