Bosses at a Tyneside taxi firm are giving out tips reminding festive revelers to take a few common sense precautions to help them stay safe this Christmas.
LA Taxis, Newcastle’s largest fleet have given out thousands of safety leaflets in the city’s bars, restaurants and hotels in a bid to make people think about the potential dangers associated with nights out, an excess of alcohol and late night parties.
The firm has built up a positive reputation for customer satisfaction and safety by utilising new technology such as traceable telephone recordings and GPS tracked vehicles alongside more traditional methods such as customer care training and uniformed, enhanced CRB checked drivers.
One of LA Taxi’s directors, Rob Armstrong explained why the Christmas campaign was so important for the people of Newcastle.
“Christmas is traditionally a time for letting your hair down and having a good time. Sadly, it’s also the time of year when everybody needs to take more care and cowboy cab drivers take to the street.
“All that we are saying is be safe, let people know where you are going and tell someone who you are with. It’s common sense really but sadly so many people get carried away by the party atmosphere and forget about their personal safety.”
As well as personal safety, the company is urging people to book a reputable taxi firm rather than using cowboy cabbies that take advantage of the busy period.
“All of our taxis go through stringent safety checks and periodic tests by the licensing authorities. This is for one reason only – to ensure that the vehicle is safe and fit to carry passengers. We are all very proud of our vehicles and have them maintained to the highest levels. Unfortunately not everyone has that same pride and we would urge people to book their taxis in advance with a well established firm like LA Taxis.”
