Country Music Legend comes to Northumberland

Oct 6, 2015

Community radio station, Radio Northumberland has brought a touch of Americana to the region with the arrival of a brand new country music show and one of the most respected presenters in radio.

Station Manager, Stewart Allen, a veteran of more than 30 years in local radio, was delighted to welcome legendary presenter Brian Clough to the Bedlington based station.

“Brian Clough has been the ‘voice’ of country music’ in the North East of England for over three decades now, starting at Metro Radio, moving on to Great North Radio, Century and Smooth Radio and others in between. We are delighted that his show will be a big part of Radio Northumberland’s ever growing schedule of entertaining programmes.”

Each week Brian will take a look at the country music scene in Nashville, and he’ll play an eclectic mix of country music old and new.

Over 30 years plus of broadcasting country music he has interviewed some of the country greats from Johnny Cash, Don Williams and Tammy Wynette through to the more modern contemporary artists of today.

Lyle Lovett invited him to sing the second verse to one of his songs at an appearance in Newcastle when he knew Brian had recorded one of his songs when he found out he was in the audience and the legendary Billie Jo Spears duetted with him on record with a song that he had written.

In 2009 the Country Music Association of America awarded him the prestigious International Country Music Broadcaster Of The Year accolade for his outstanding contribution to the music.

The American Connection Show will broadcast every Sunday lunchtime starting on 18th October.
