Durham Artist Selling Painting That Marked His Recovery After Mother’s Death to Raise Funds for Sir Bobby Robson Foundation

Jul 28, 2024

Established artist Ronnie Pattison is set to offer for sale his most cherished painting of St James’ Park, the home of Newcastle United Football Club, in memory of his late mother who passed away from cancer. The goal is to raise as much as possible for The Sir Bobby Robson Foundation, a charity close to Ronnie’s heart.

Located in Chester-Le-Street, Ronnie’s studio boasts an impressive array of original artwork, prints, and unique gifts. Ronnie, who began painting at the age of 15, attributes much of his inspiration and success to his late mother. Despite initial personal setbacks following her death, Ronnie has now fully regained his passion for painting.

“My mother was the main inspiration behind my art. Unfortunately, after she passed away, I struggled for years, but I promised her I’d never give up. It took me a long time to regain my passion, but I have, especially in the last three years. The first painting I did when I felt well enough again was an aerial view of St James’ Park, I did some eight years after her passing and because of that I’ve never considered selling it – until now,” said Ronnie.

As a lifelong Newcastle fan, Sir Bobby Robson was one of Ronnie’s heroes.

“My mother battled cancer, and if the Foundation was around when she was fighting it may have helped her and others like her. Since her death the Foundation’s work has really touched our lives. I even had the privilege of meeting Sir Bobby, who said he appreciated my work deeply. If I can find a Newcastle fan who wants to buy it, then this painting will be my way of giving back. I’m looking for a single buyer or an organisation that understands the value of the artwork and the cause I’m supporting.”

The Sir Bobby Robson Foundation, established in 2008, funds cutting-edge cancer treatments and innovative cancer support services that directly benefit patients across the North East and Cumbria and play a significant role in international efforts against cancer.

Lady Elsie Robson was delighted to support Ronnie’s fund-raising efforts for The Sir Bobby Robson Foundation, which is part of Newcastle Hospitals Charity.

Lady Elsie said: “It’s a beautiful picture and I’m very touched that Ronnie would give up something so cherished to support the work of our Foundation.

“I’m sure there is a Newcastle United fan out there who will appreciate the skill and time that went into the painting and the money raised will help us continue the cancer research that Bob was so passionate about.”

As well as high end artwork, Ronnie’s studio offers a range of items from coasters and tea towels to signed and numbered prints of artwork, making art accessible to everyone.

Ronnie’s latest painting of St James’ Park has been slightly delayed due to real events at the football ground.

“My latest painting showing the East Stand has had to be altered as the Club have changed the font on the Newcastle United signage above the stand. I believe in accuracy, so I’ve had to redo that part of the painting. I’ve since seen the funny side and can smile about it now. My biggest smile however will be when I pass on a big cheque to the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation and I hope someone out there will care enough to buy the aerial view of the ground,” he said.

Anyone wishing to offer an amount can contact Ronnie on ronpat@mail.com or pop into his studio at 29, South Burns, Chester le Street ,next to Tesco.
