More Easter Eggs have been given to good causes in the region as the “Good Egg Partnership” between community radio station Radio Northumberland, Bedlington charity Leading Link and Lodge Temperance Freemasons scrambles to help local good causes.
The partnership will distribute Easter eggs to special schools, food banks, care homes, veterans’ charities and youth centres and other good causes across North Tyneside, Newcastle, and Northumberland.
The first batch of Easter Eggs were donated by Morrisons in Alnwick which were then presented to residents and staff at Abbeyfield House in the town. Jim Thompson, Chair of the Trustees was delighted with the Easter eggs.
“It’s always special when other people think about our residents. The gift of a simple thing like a chocolate egg creates a nice feeling and helps rekindle memories of Easter’s past. We are very grateful to everyone for their kind donations.”
A batch of Easter Eggs was given to Morpeth based charity Calmer Therapy to distribute amongst children from the area. Calmer Therapy was founded in June 2015 by Donna Swan, a mother of three children. two of which have additional needs. She noticed that support was hard to find due to constant cuts to children’s mental health service and the growing numbers of families in Northumberland desperate for support and so she decided to create Calmer Therapy. Now as well as their Morpeth base they cover all the North East and the Scottish Borders.
Victoria Swan from Calmer Therapy was delighted with the gift of eggs. “These will add a bit of happiness to a lot of young people that we come in contact with,” she said.” We are very grateful to the “Good Egg Partnership” for thinking of us.”
Almost 100 chocolate eggs were distributed to residents and staff at Scarbrough Court Care Home in Cramlington. Scarbrough Court is operated and managed by The Royal Masonic Benevolent
Institution and primarily looks after elderly freemasons and their widows. Manager Sam Buxton was very pleased with the kind gesture.
“It’s lovely that people care enough about our residents to give them eggs at Easter. We are very grateful to the freemasons, Radio Northumberland, and Leading Link for organising the visit and leaving almost 100 eggs to enjoy.”
Radio Northumberland is advertising and coordinating the collection of eggs and Leading Link will help to distribute them to families together with Lodge Temperance who are using their members to coordinate with care homes and schools.
Project organiser Tom Stewart said, “We’re aiming to distribute 3000 eggs this year and each one will generate a smile for whoever gets one.”
Keith Newman from Radio Northumberland who is also a trustee for Leading Link said: “It’s been wonderful visiting charities, care homes and good causes to see the good work they do. We’d like to do a lot more to help everyone and the Easter eggs are a good start which could lead to bigger things for the benefit of our community.”
