A family-run accountancy business is welcoming the next generation to the firm.
JBC Management Solutions, run by Bruce Cusworth and wife Janet, has recruited son Martin, 28, to the business.
Martin has worked for a number of North East firms since graduating from Stirling University with a degree in accountancy and business studies, including SCS, Dickinsons and motor firms Benfield and Bell Truck Mercedes.
It is his expertise in the automotive sector that has secured his place with the Ponteland-based family firm.
Bruce, who was a financial director for Tommee Tippee and worked at executive level for Procter & Gamble and PriceWaterhouse before setting up his own business, said: “We wanted to bring Martin on board because of the experience he has working in the financial side of the motor industry.
“We have an increasing number of automotive clients, including a number of driving instructors, valets, garages and a car dealer, and this is an area we want to grow.
“With Martin’s knowledge of the sector, we can offer our clients an extra level of expertise.”
JBC Management Solutions, which has been running for 16 years, can take care of every accountancy need that businesses have from bookkeeping to payroll to looking after the complete back office function. Janet, who is a former head of maths at Ashington Hirst Park Middle School, looks after the bookkeeping side of the business.
CIMA qualified accountant Martin from Wallsend, will be working across the business, from payroll to helping companies meet their responsibilities for auto-enrolment for pensions, plus looking after social media, networking and communications.
He said: “I’m so pleased to be joining the family firm at such a key time. There are many compliance issues that businesses now have to be aware of, such as the pensions auto-enrolment scheme.
“My experience of tackling these issues in the motor trade and retail sector will give JBC Management Solutions a better understanding of the issues faced by our clients.”
The firm has more than 100 clients on its books from sole traders to multinational companies. They include a number of sporting businesses, such as basketball clubs, horse riding stables, personal trainers, gyms and sports cycle retailers.
Bruce said: “We are a sporty family, Janet & I met through badminton, and we play golf and badminton together at club level.
“Janet was the British Universities Ladies Doubles champion at badminton and I used to play at a fairly high level. Janet, a qualified coach taught our children to play and Martin is now keeping up the family tradition too.
“I really feel that when you can bring your own experience to bear and you have an inside understanding of what your client does or is trying to achieve, it makes for a much more successful business relationship.
“Martin’s experience in the auto sector has already helped a number of clients, and I am sure it will help to drive our business forward.”
