From the North Sea to the Dead Sea

Oct 24, 2023

In an inspiring show of community spirit and philanthropy, three members of the North Tyneside Business Forum are lacing up their boots for an extraordinary adventure. Over five gruelling days, they will be trekking to the ancient city of Petra, all in the noble effort of supporting the North Shields-based charity, YMCA.

The three members of the Forum are Read Milburn & Co Director, David Hodgson, and YMCA fundraising coordinators Cat Morton and Cameron Galloway.

Petra, renowned for its breath-taking archaeological wonders and awe-inspiring landscapes, will serve as the backdrop to this incredible journey. Highlights will include the chance to

float in the iconic Dead Sea, visiting the ancient ‘rose city’ of Petra, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and camping out Bedouin style under a blanket of stars.

The North Shields YMCA charity has long been a pillar of support for the region, offering a wide range of services that empower and uplifts local youth and the broader community. The funds raised through this trek will provide crucial support to the organisation’s mission, enabling them to continue their essential work.

David expressed his enthusiasm, saying, “This journey is not just about the physical challenge but also about giving back to our community. We believe in the YMCA’s mission and are eager to contribute to their efforts.”

Cameron added, “Petra is an iconic destination, and to be able to use this adventure to support a cause we hold dear is incredibly rewarding. We hope to inspire others to get involved and make a difference.”

North Tyneside Business Forum Chair, Michael James said, “This trek to Petra is a shining example of how the business community and charitable organisations can join hands to create a positive impact. They have a lot of training to do for the walk and we are literally all behind them. We wish them luck.”

Supported by the North Tyneside Council, the North Tyneside Business Forum plays a vital role in fostering a vibrant and prosperous business community within the Borough. The Forum facilitates growth, innovation, and success for businesses across various sectors and sizes. It is run by a management team made up of members from various industry sectors in the Borough and gives support in the form of networking, events and signposting for growth and development.
