Healthwatch Gateshead and Healthwatch Newcastle Need Your Help to Shape the Future of the NHS

Jan 23, 2025

Healthwatch Gateshead and Healthwatch Newcastle are running a series of four workshops to gather ideas and opinions on the future of the NHS. These workshops are part of the government’s nationwide initiative, ‘Change NHS: Help Build a Health Service Fit for the Future,’ aimed at sparking the largest-ever public conversation about the future of healthcare in England.

This is a unique opportunity for members of the public to voice their thoughts, share their experiences, and help shape the next decade of the NHS. Feedback from people who use NHS services in Gateshead and Newcastle will play a vital role in developing the government’s 10-Year Health Plan for England.

The first public discussion group took place recently in Newcastle. Jointly hosted by Healthwatch Gateshead and Healthwatch Newcastle, it brought together members of the community to share their insights on what is working well and what needs improvement within the NHS.

“Dan Milburn, Lead Officer at Healthwatch Newcastle, commented on the event:

“The feedback we’ve received so far has been incredibly valuable. The participants have shared thoughtful, insightful, and often deeply personal experiences that provide a clear and honest picture of what is working and where improvements are urgently needed. This kind of high-quality input is exactly what is needed to shape a stronger and more resilient NHS for the future.”

Dan Milburn added: “It’s important to let your voice be heard and help shape a health service that works for everyone. The information we are receiving will help build an NHS that meets the needs of our communities now and in the future.”
