Inspirational Event For People’s Kitchen

Nov 13, 2013

pk xmas 5smallA magical musical spectacular will herald the start of the Christmas period for one of Tyneside’s most loved charities.

The People’s Kitchen was formed in 1985 and has transformed thousands of disadvantaged people’s lives by providing them with friendship and food and filling a gap in the evenings when homeless people are at their most vulnerable. The charity is hoping that an event at Newcastle’s St Mary’s Catholic Cathedral on Saturday 23rd November will raise much needed funds cover much of the outlay needed to provide Christmas celebrations for all of the charity’s “friends.”
Entertainment for the evening comes from Inspiration, a large community choir based at The Sage in Gateshead. The concert came about because one of the volunteers at the People’s Kitchen, Rose Goldie is a member of the Inspiration Choir.

Like The People’s Kitchen, Inspiration relies on volunteers who meet once a week during school term time to learn songs for the shows they perform in Newcastle and Leeds. The choir has a simple ethos – everyone can sing, there are no auditions and it’s fun.

The choir is donating its time free of charge for the show, which will be attended by one of the charity’s patrons, Right Rev. Seamus Cunningham, Bishop of Hexham and Newcastle, members of the public and supporters of the People’s Kitchen. The People’s Kitchen is also honoured to have as patrons, Her Grace the Duchess of Northumberland and the Rt Rev. Martin Wharton, Bishop of Newcastle.

Maureen Hogg from The People’s Kitchen said, “Christmas is a very special time for most people but for some it’s just another day. All year round we provide food, friendship and hope to the vulnerable people of Tyneside and at Christmas we also do our very best to give them all a sense of normality. This event will help to provide some of the home comforts we take for granted at Christmas time and I would urge the good people of the North East to come along, have a great night and support our charity.”

Tickets priced at £8 for the event are available from The People’s Kitchen on 0191 222069 or Maureen Hogg on 0191 2573827. There may also be tickets available on the night.
