The People’s Kitchen, one of the region’s most cherished charities is asking people to consider not sending traditional Christmas cards and donate to help others this festive period.
Trustee Kevin Maloney said: “The average cost of a Christmas card can be a couple of pounds and when you add the postage cost it all adds up. We’d love people to save their money and then donate a small amount to our Feed a Friend For a Fiver Campaign. Everyone wins as you aren’t spending huge amounts, it’s a greener way to keep in touch if you send a text or an electronic card and most importantly, your donation is helping someone in need this Christmas.”
Having served as a beacon of hope and support for vulnerable people in the community for more than 30 years, The People’s Kitchen provides crucial services such as hot meals, clothing, and companionship to those facing hardship. Opting to donate instead of buying and exchanging Christmas cards enables supporters to contribute directly to the charity’s mission of creating positive changes in the lives of those less fortunate.
The People’s Kitchen recognises that the holiday season is a time of joy and celebration, yet it also serves as a poignant reminder of the challenges faced by many in our community. Indeed, due to factors including the rising cost of living, The People’s Kitchen finds itself working at its busiest with up to 250 meals per day being served every day of the year, including Christmas Day.
Trustee Kevin added, “Every donation, no matter how modest, aids us in helping those who need it most. Our “Feed a Friend For A Fiver” Campaign, will help provide food and support throughout the Christmas period and into the cold New Year. He said, “All of our staff are unpaid volunteers, and we receive no government grants. Every penny we receive is dedicated to benefiting our Friends. Running our campaign entirely in-house ensures that every penny donated goes directly to helping others.”
