Sunday for Sammy: Powered by the North East

More than 50 businesses and organisations from across the North East have pledged their support for the upcoming Sunday for Sammy show, donating goods, services and time to help ensure another unforgettable night in aid of the charity.

The wide range of support highlights the strength of the region’s creative and business communities, all coming together to back Sunday for Sammy’s work supporting performing artists in times of crisis.

Show producer Ray Laidlaw said the backing of so many organisations plays a vital role in the success of the event.

“Sunday for Sammy has always been about people pulling together for the greater good,” he said. “The support we receive from businesses, colleges, venues and public bodies makes a massive difference. It allows us to put on a top-class show while making sure more of the money raised goes directly to helping artists when they really need it.”

Gateshead College has once again played a key role in supporting the charity, providing students with hands-on experience across a wide range of creative disciplines. Lisa Crow from Gateshead College said the partnership has been invaluable.

“We’ve had so many fantastic opportunities for our students through Sunday for Sammy,” she said. “They’ve been involved in everything from Sketch for Sammy and merchandise design to planning the VIP area for the show, as well as photography, TV and film projects.

“One of the highlights was welcoming Matty Healy – it was an incredible day. We managed to keep it a secret from the students, and when they walked into the theatre and saw him standing front and centre, they were completely blown away.”

Hospitality partner Maldron Hotel Newcastle is also backing the event, continuing its support for arts and culture in the region. General Manager Anna Wadcock from the hotel said:

“Sunday for Sammy is an amazing local charity, and I absolutely love how much they do to support the arts across the region.

“If you’re a business in the North East and you’re able to help a charity like this in any way, shape or form, you really should. Who doesn’t love going to concerts, films and musicals?  What Sunday for Sammy does to support young and emerging talent from the North East is just fantastic.”

The charity has also received backing from the North East Combined Authority, recognising the importance of creative events to the region. Lesley Strickland said supporting the show was an easy decision.

“It was really crucial for us to support organisations from the North East,” she said. “And what better way than getting behind a fantastic North East event that brings together so much talent and so many brilliant performers.

“We’re absolutely delighted to be involved and can’t wait for the show to happen on 15 February.”
