North Point prove they care with qualified staff

Jun 7, 2011

Three people with very different career backgrounds have banded together to form a new training and recruitment agency specifically designed to offer specialist care for vulnerable and disabled people and those that care for them.
Ashington based North Point Care is the result of a partnership between ex Merchant Navy Officer Alan Jobling, ex chef, Bev Wilkinson and ex karate instructor Gary Davidson. Despite their original choice of careers, the three all have one thing in common; a host of skills and experience in the caring and training professions which they believe will give them a distinct advantage over other businesses who supply staff to caring agencies.
After leaving the Merchant Navy and later the Police Force, Alan from Morpeth and Gary from Swarland started a 13 year partnership with their own training agency while Bev from Newcastle swapped her culinary talents for a career in the caring industry. Her vocational skills were recognised with rapid promotions within care based social enterprises before starting her own training business. The three often worked together offering health and safety , first aid and other vocational and domiciliary training before deciding to start a joint venture as North Point Care Ltd.
The new business has a clear focus on providing trained, fully qualified staff to caring agencies to cover staff illness periods, holidays or last minute emergencies which could otherwise leave vulnerable people without the appropriate level of competent care. This is a situation that because of her experience, Bev wants to avoid at all costs.
“Patient abuse is currently at an all time high and can be attributed to poor recruitment and selection processes and a lack of training leading to qualifications,” she said. “Everyone on our books is trained and holds qualifications in industry accredited modules covering food safety, emergency first aid, basic health and safety and the manual handling techniques required within the workplace.”

North Point Care’s first intake of eight staff who were all recruited with assistance from Job Centre Plus have now “graduated” with flying colours and are already reacting to calls from carers and health professionals needing trained staff to step in; even at a moment’s notice.

“Our team is trained and ready to provide the appropriate level of care for people who use services whatever their needs, from dealing with dementia sufferers to long term debilitating conditions, in a caring, professional manner which will help our business stand out from a number of others.” said Ms Wilkinson.
