TIME is running out for a Tyneside charity to gain vital votes to secure a much-needed £3000 lifeline to help the homeless and vulnerable people of Newcastle.
The People’s Kitchen is hoping that the people of the North East will use their texting thumbs to help them secure a £3000 windfall which will be used to train volunteers to help them to look after the needs of the city’s homeless people.
Voting for the Lloyds Bank Community Fund 2013 for Tyne and Wear ends on 1st November and if successful, The People’s Kitchen will use the money to ensure that their small army of volunteers are well prepared for any eventuality when helping the homeless and vulnerable.
The People’s Kitchen has provided friendship and food to some of the most disadvantaged and vulnerable adults in Newcastle for 27 years, filling a gap in the evenings when homeless people are at their most vulnerable. Six days of the week, fifty two weeks of the year, more than 250 people are helped in many ways by the kind hearted volunteers from their building near St James Park and from mobile catering units which operate on the city’s streets.
All of their services are provided by unpaid volunteers and depend on charitable, corporate and private donations. Increasingly, in order to cope with the demands of modern society, volunteers need to be continually trained to fulfill their roles in an up-to-date compassionate way.
“Your vote can help us improve the lives of people who really need our help,” said Peter Samuel, Deputy Chair of Trustees.
“Every year we receive an enormous amount of help from churches, schools and the general public, particularly around harvest festival time. We receive a lot of foodstuff but we desperately need to make sure that our volunteers are well trained and that takes money that we don’t have. This £3000 will make a massive difference to us and the “friends” that we help in Newcastle.”
The Lloyds Bank Community Fund gives grants to over 1,300 local good causes in villages, towns and cities across England and Wales.
Votes may be made at the website : www.lloydsbank.com/communityfund and searching for People’s Kitchen or you can vote for The People’s Kitchen – Newcastle by SMS text from your mobile phone too.
Voting is open until 1 November 2013. Votes can also be cast by visiting branches of Lloyds.
