Peter Millican Law raises the bar as firm grows

Jan 9, 2015

A fast-growing North East boutique commercial law firm, now in its 10th year of operating, has continued to invest in its future to give its clients the best possible legal service.

Peter Millican Law, which relocated from its original offices in Ashington to Newcastle City Centre over three years ago, has already outgrown its offices on Collingwood Street leading to a move to new, larger offices within Collingwood Buildings.

The move was necessary for the Firm, which has seen an increase in its client base in the specialist areas of commercial and company law. This year for example, the firm has taken on new clients in the energy sector with the Firm advising on complex issues of law concerning oil, gas, engineering and renewable energy. Coupled with the firm’s historical reputation for looking after new business start-ups and a growing client-base, particularly within the Manufacturing, Engineering, Leisure and Hospitality Sectors meant that the expansion of the Firm was inevitable.

New office space however wasn’t the only answer to the Firm’s need to provide more services for its growing client base. Due to this increased demand, which coincides with the regional and national economic recovery, the Firm has also added to its team of solicitors.

Commercial Solicitor, Jabad Jaigirdar, has joined from international law firm Eversheds LLP, having previously worked at regional law firm Hay & Kilner Solicitors. Jabad studied in London, before returning to practice in the North East, where he also has a 50 per cent interest in an Indian restaurant, so he understands commerce from both a business owner’s and lawyer’s point of view.

Trainee Solicitor, Neal Molloy, has come to the Firm from national commercial law firm, Bond Dickinson. Prior to this, Neal gained valuable commercial experience on the management team of a business support company. He was integral in obtaining funding for a £7m business support project and he assisted in the successful delivery of the project. Neal, a Northumbria University graduate, advises clients on a wide range of corporate and commercial matters.

In addition to the new appointments, the Firm is still looking to expand further and is currently recruiting for a solicitor specialising in general commercial law with additional experience in commercial property.

Peter Millican, who started the Firm in 2005 after leaving the legal department in Northern Rock PLC, said: “Although we are going through a rapid period of expansion, Peter Millican law are a well-established specialist commercial law firm. The Firm has been practising since 2005, although individual experience runs much deeper than that, and we’ve a wealth of experience in business and commercial law. However, now that we’ve added to our team, we can offer even more services and expert advice in specialist sectors to our clients.

Peter Millican Law offers advice and expertise on all aspects of business law. From business acquisitions and re-structures, to debt recovery and shareholder agreements to employment law, the Firm now have the capacity to not only take on more corporate clients but specialise into new emerging markets too and Peter is very optimistic about the new year ahead.

“This recruitment drive and office move is just the start for us. We are an ambitious firm, and as a subscriber to the Growth Accelerator Programme, we are aiming to quadruple our turnover in the next four years in Newcastle City Centre.

“Expanding our team and introducing new services during Q1 and Q2 of 2015 will play a key part in our growth over the next few years. It is an exciting time and Peter Millican Law is an exciting place to be”
