Radio Northumberland has been providing 24 hour Internet programming since it formed in January 2012. It has gained a reputation for community involvement as well as broadcasting music and talk based programming. In the past 12 months, the station’s sports team have been hard at work covering local non-league football and now the station is proud to announce its plans for the new season.
During the new season, Radio Northumberland will broadcast around 30 Blyth Spartans football matches to listeners all over the world via the internet.
The station has committed to covering every home game in every competition (including the cups) and five away games, with a sixth likely as well. Coverage will start on Saturday at Marine AFC on Merseyside with Head of Sport Jonny Hall and Spartans’ Senior Press Officer Mark Carruthers leading.

Last seasons home game coverage generated a lot of interest from not only locals but fans of the visiting teams and ex pats in various parts of the world but especially America and Canada.

Radio Northumberland’s football commentaries were also mentioned as contributing to Blyth Spartan’s winning of the Evo Stik Northern Premier League’s first ever Public Relations award.

Head of Sport, Jonny Hall said;

“Our Blyth Spartan’s coverage is part of Radio Northumberland’s on-going commitment to providing high quality, non-league football programming for clubs in this area.”

“The response to our coverage, from both Green Army fans in the North East and those around the world, has been incredible and we look forward to providing live and uninterrupted coverage of at least 30 games over the coming season at one of the most famous non-league clubs in the country.

“We are also delighted to cover the Northumberland Senior Cup again and to secure the Northumberland FA’s support to broadcast this season’s final is a massive achievement for the station.”
