A Bedlington based online community radio station is asking for volunteers to help take them to the next level in their bid for an FM licence.
Radio Northumberland has been providing 24 hour Internet programming since it formed in January 2012. It has gained a reputation for community involvement as well as broadcasting music and talk based programming. Now, an application has been made to Ofcom for a licence which will enable them to broadcast on an FM radio frequency to the people of Ashington, Bedlington, Blyth, Cramlington and Morpeth.
Station Manager, Stewart Allen from Bedlington, who as a veteran of more than 30 years in local radio brings a wealth of knowledge with him, is excited about the possibilities open to Radio Northumberland and is now looking to strengthen the station’s back room staff.
“A successful radio station isn’t just about good presenters and programme schedules,” he said. “We are now looking for people to volunteer with specific skills such as accountancy, admin, telephone answering, office skills and facilities management.
“Anyone interested can contact us by email requests@radionorthumberland.com or via our Twitter feed @rnorthumberland.
The station broadcasts a variety of music styles and genres with shows by experienced presenters and interviewers as well as running shows produced and presented by local schools and other community organisations.
The station can be heard online at http://www.radionorthumberland.com/
