Fans of BBC’s hit comedy series “Boy Meets Girl” are in for a festive treat, as a specially written sketch featuring at least one of the stars of the show will be performed live in Newcastle in December.

Rebecca Root is the first big name to be announced for the fourth annual Christmas at the Cathedral Concert held in aid of Teenage Cancer Trust at St Nicholas Cathedral on December 15th.

Although still to be finalised, it is hoped that transgender actress, Rebecca who played Judy in the series will perform a sketch written by talented writer Elliott Kerrigan from Cramlington.

The groundbreaking sitcom told the tale of the relationship between Leo (Harry Hepple) and Judy and also starred Denise Welch. It also featured Lindisfarne’s “Meet me on the corner” as its theme tune.

Ex Lindisfarne drummer Ray Laidlaw who is currently on tour with fellow band mate Billy Mitchell with the Lindisfarne Story show is producing the cathedral concert and is delighted that Rebecca has pledged her support to the annual Teenage Cancer Trust fundraising event.

“Having Rebecca appear at the concert is great for everyone. She’s made a real impression on the world of comedy and drama and with the series being set in the North East she’ll be a firm favourite with our audience too.”

Rebecca is also looking forward to returning to Newcastle next month.

“Although I have not experienced cancer first- (or even second-) hand (touch wood) I know the devastation it can wreak to one who gets it. It’s tough enough being an adult and facing such an illness, even worse for a young person who would otherwise be in the prime of their life. Teenage Cancer Trust is an amazing charity and I am delighted to be supporting it here in my “spiritual home” of the North East.”

The concert, which is primarily sponsored by Benfield, will include performances from popular entertainers, choirs with traditional carols and festive readings. Tickets (£15) are selling well and are available from Newcastle City Hall box office on 0191 277 8030 or online at www.newcastlecityhall.org . Any companies wishing to support the event either through sponsorship or by VIP ticket packages, should email jonathanwallis@georgefwhite.co.uk
