Rock n Roll Show Eager to Entertain

May 6, 2018

One of the biggest names in rock and roll is coming to Tyneside to headline a concert in aid of a local charity.

Vince Eager who toured with stars such as Billy Fury, Eddie Cochrane and Marty Wilde will be playing a special set with his band at the “Rave On” all day event on Saturday 13 October at the Innisfree Social Club in Longbenton.

The event will be in aid of Beach Access North East (BANE) who help wheelchair users get access to the coastline. The charity buys specially adapted wheelchairs and loans them out free of charge to those people wanting to enjoy time by the waterfront at Blyth, Tynemouth Longsands, North Shields and Whitley Bay.

One of the trustees of BANE, Jamie Bell is also the vocalist with The Baldy Holly Band who will also be appearing on the bill.

“This is a major musical event for the north east,” he said. “ Vince is an icon of rock and roll who has played with many of the greats and for five years he starred in the Sir Laurence Olivier Award winning West End musical “ELVIS”

Vince Eager’s career started in the 1950’s with the “Vagabonds Skiffle Group” who reached the televised final on BBC Television’s Come Dancing. This appearance helped them raise their profile and the band changed their name to “Vince Eager & The Vagabonds”.

Vince became a household name with over 100 TV appearances on shows such as Drumbeat, Six Five Special and Oh Boy. He released 14 singles and five albums and toured with stars such as Eddie Cochran, Gene Vincent, Marty Wilde, Jerry Lee Lewis and Billy Fury. In the 80’s he took his talent to the theatre where he took the lead role in the musical ELVIS.

The Rave On event also features Rockabilly band, The Doggone Daddy’s, Bernie and the Bluenotes, a five piece rock and roll rockabilly blues band, Robson Field a 50’s and 60’s tribute artist, DJ’s, food and a retro stall. Main support for Vince Eager are The Baldy Holly Band who have also secured a slot at this year’s Northumberland Live Festival at Blyth in June.

All proceeds of the event, which is sponsored by “Bopper and Me” and The Baldy Holly Band will benefit BANE.
