Pupils from a Morpeth school are looking forward to exercising more during the day thanks to a new outdoor gym which has been part funded by Rotary Morpeth.
The new outdoor gym has been built at Collingwood School and Media Arts College, a community specialist school, toencourage the students to enjoy the benefits of exercise and lead a fitter and healthier lifestyle.
The new equipment includes health walkers, step machines and arm and pedal cycles which the children will use during activity lessons and supervised sessions at break times.
In October 2018, Rotary Morpeth held a fund-raising evening in the town’s Lollo Rosso Italian restaurant specifically to benefit the school. The evening was attended by the
Mayor and Mayoress, rotary club members and their families as well as members of Morpeth Lions and the Inner Wheel. The evening raised a staggering £1460 which was then donated to the school.
Head teacher, Richard Jones said, “This outdoor gym is a fantastic resource for our children. It is so important to promote a healthy, active lifestyle and we are grateful to Rotary Morpeth for their part in raising funds towards these wonderful pieces of equipment.”
Bob Kendall, President Rotary Morpeth said, “I’d like to thank everyone who has contributed to our fund-raising efforts for Collingwood Media Arts College. We were delighted to help with this very worthwhile project.”
Rotary Morpeth meets on Tuesdays at 5.45pm at Morpeth Golf Club.
