First news of star studded line up for Christmas Concert
Some of the region’s best-known names have confirmed their appearance at next month’s seventh annual Christmas at the Cathedral Concert in aid of The Sir Bobby Robson Foundation.
A host of celebrity stars will perform songs, readings and comedy sketches while choirs will sing both traditional festive songs and Christmas Carols. The concert will take place on Thursday, December 13 at St Nicholas Cathedral in Newcastle and the first details of those taking part have been announced.
Celebrities taking part this year include BBC TV’s Casualty star Chelsea Halfpenny, Maximo Park’s Paul Smith, vocalist Rachel Unthank, comedians Steffen Peddie and Jason Cook, The Swing Bridge Singers and fresh from her appearances in The Last Ship and Clear White Light; Charlie Hardwick. A reading will be given by Sir Bobby Robson Foundation Patron and football writer George Caulkin. Billy Mitchell will compere the show while BBC Newcastle are the event’s official media partners.
Producer Ray Laidlaw said: “The lineup has something for everyone from comedy to music and the show is a great way to get you into the festive spirit. It’s a great family night out raises funds for a very worthwhile cause.”
Sir Bobby Robson launched his Foundation in 2008 and it has gone on to raise over £12 million to find more effective ways to detect and treat cancer.
The work funded directly benefits cancer patients in the North East and Cumbria and plays a significant role in the international fight against the disease.
Working within the NHS, the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation does not employ professional fundraisers to proactively raise money and relies completely on third party, volunteer fundraisers and the incredible generosity of the general public.
