Grants Open for Aspiring Performing Artistes from the North East
The Sunday for Sammy Trust has announced the latest round of grant funding for young, talented and passionate performing artistes across the North East of England.
This Spring, the Trust is inviting applications for financial grants to support training, equipment or career development. Shortlisted applicants will be invited to audition in Newcastle, where they’ll have the chance to showcase their talents and share their creative aspirations directly with the Trustees.
Named after the late Sammy Johnson, the Sunday for Sammy Trust supports young people from the North East aiming for a career in performing arts. Funding comes from the much-loved biennial Sunday for Sammy concerts, merchandise sales, and generous donations. Tickets for the next show at Newcastle’s Utilita Arena on February 15th are selling well which is good news for the recipients of the next round of grant funding.
Trust administrator Ray Laidlaw said: “The Trust welcomes applications throughout
the year and considers them biannually. Applicants must be aged 16+,and each application should include a letter of recommendation from a course tutor, industry professional or someone familiar with the applicant’s hopes and ambitions. Formal training is not essential – what matters most is talent, creativity, and dedication.
“If you’re aged 16 or over and have a dream of working in the performing arts – whether you’re a musician, actor, singer, dancer, comedian, performer of any kind or someone who wants to work behind the scenes, we want to hear from you but hurry as applications close on Sunday 27th April so don’t miss out!”
Previous recipients of a grant have included Jason Cook, Cathryn Dryden, Peter Tickell and Hayley MacKay.
