Super-Shaun abseils, runs and cycles for Smile for Life

September has been a super busy month for charity super-hero Shaun Milne.
He has abseiled down the Baltic Centre, completed the Great North Run and cycled 183 miles from Edinburgh to Newcastle – all to help North East charity Smile for Life light up the lives of disabled and disadvantaged children.
Shaun, 41, from Kenton in Newcastle works for the Driving Standards Agency and hopes to raise more than £1,000 for the charity after successfully completing all three charity challenges.
Smile for Life provides support to help improve the lives of disabled and disadvantaged youngsters in the North East and Scottish Borders, an area that Shaun and the team rode through on their way to Newcastle Keep. At the end of the grueling bike ride, completed in just two days, Shaun admitted he was ready for a ‘bit of a rest’ but said the challenges had been great fun.
“It’s been a great month, I’ve really enjoyed the challenges, each one has been different but all three contribute to a very worthy cause.”
“I did the bike ride with 10 other people and I must admit, we did get a little bit lost at one point and the whole group ended up taking a bit of a detour across the moors, but fortunately we all made it back to Newcastle in one piece.
“It was hard going at times but the thought that we would be helping to bring some happiness into the lives of some very special children and their families really kept us going.”
Paula Gascoigne, Chief Executive of Smile for Life thanked Shaun and the rest of the group saying: “This has been a tremendous effort and we are incredibly grateful. All the money raised will be put to good use making a real difference to the lives of children in the North East who need an extra helping hand, whether that means buying them special equipment or helping them to realise their dream.
“We couldn’t continue our work without support from people like Shaun and the team, I can’t thank them enough.”
