A star-studded evening celebrating all things “Geordie” together with a celebrity golf day is set to raise much needed funds to help with the care costs for a close friend of North East icon Tim Healy.
The inaugural Tim Healy Celebrity Classic, sponsored by PinPoint Health & Social Care will be held at the MacDonald Linden Hall Golf & Country Club in Northumberland. All proceeds will go towards helping the family of actor Dave Whitaker who now needs constant care after suffering a stroke in 2012.
The star-studded event on Thursday 7th September 2017, will see TV, music and sports personalities competing to play in a celebrity charity golf tournament. The event will begin with breakfast at 10.00 a.m. and tee off at noon, followed by a prize giving, gala “Geordie” dinner, live music and an auction.
Celebrities that have pledged their support include Faye Tozer co-lead singer of pop group Steps, Adam Gillen who plays Tim’s son in Benidorm, snooker legends Jimmy White and John Virgo, actor Gareth Hale of Hale and Pace fame, former IBF World Cruiserweight Champion Glenn McCrory,
Game of Thrones actor Clive Russell, Bread and Coronation Street actress Melanie Hill and cricketer Steve Harmison. Add to this list an impressive number of footballers including Steve Howey, Steve Harper, John Beresford, Rob Lee, Steve Watson, Dave Regis, Cyrille Regis and Dean Gordon and the day is set to attract much needed funds.
Entertainment on the night includes comedian Steffen Peddie, Cole Page who is an international singer, magician / escapologist, Chris Cross, Newcastle band Dennis and ex Lindisfarne frontman Billy Mitchell who will be singing with the Sunday for Sammy Band.
Tim is best known for playing Dennis Patterson in the television series Auf Wiedersehen Pet, Lesley in the ITV comedy-drama series Benidorm and Gastric in Still Open All Hours.
Organiser Karen Thornton Brown said, “Even if you don’t play golf, there’s a lot of entertainment on the course including a Hole-in-One five-star holiday competition, Ladies European Tour star challenge, and a world-famous golf trick shot show.
“For the golfers, teams will be four balls, with a shotgun format with trophies awarded to the top three four balls. For those guests who do not wish to play golf, tickets are available separately for the gala Geordie dinner, entertainment, auction and raffle.
The star prize on offer during the Geordie night is a behind the scenes tour of the final rehearsals for next February’s Sunday for Sammy concert at the Newcastle Metro Radio Arena.
“Sunday for Sammy is a tremendous show and the running order and names of those stars taking part is a closely guarded secret. I’ll personally take the winner back stage and introduce them to the cast and they can watch the show taking shape. The show is almost sold out and this is a once only chance to find out about the show before anyone else. I’m sure that the Geordie spirit of generosity will be evident on the night and lots of money is raised for Dave’s care,” said Tim.
“Dave is a very good friend of mine, we started working with the Live Theatre Company in 1973 and we’ve been pals ever since. I was devastated when I found out he’d had a stroke and needs 24-hour care. It’s put a tremendous strain on his family having to find additional care costs and that’s why we want to raise as much money as possible, we want people to dig deep at the auctions and buy all these special prizes to help Dave and his family.”
