Geordie Panto Teams Up with Local Good Causes
Families attending the Geordie Panto Company’s production of Cinderella at Gateshead International Stadium are guaranteed a great night of fun and laughter and the opportunity to help people in need in the region.
The panto has teamed up with the Mayor of Gateshead’s chosen charities in a bid to raise awareness and much needed donations and funds to help others. The two good causes are Teenage Cancer Trust and Gateshead Food Bank and members of the audience are invited to bring a tin or two of food with them to help the food bank and leave their loose change behind them which will be presented to the Teenage Cancer Trust.
Cinderella stars Finbar Healy, son of the late great, comedian, actor and musician Brendan Healy alongside Tyneside comedy legend and company founder, director and writer, Maxie Peters as his fellow Ugly Sister. Cinders is played by the talented Emily Swan.
Sonia Graham from the Teenage Cancer Trust was delighted that the panto company had chosen the charity.
“We support young people aged 13-24 with cancer from across the North East. We do this through our specialist units and we have two locally – one at the Great North Children’s Hospital in Newcastle and one at the Freeman Hospital. We offer specialist nursing care and support and we rely 100% percent on voluntary donations. Every penny will go towards supporting young people at a really tough time. We’re very grateful to everyone who donates at the pantomime.”
Jackie Beeley from Gateshead Food Bank is one of the volunteers who help to distribute food to individuals and families in need.
“A lot of people are struggling these days and can’t manage on the money they get. It’s good to give something back and the simple gift of a tin of food will help someone this Christmas,” she said.
Cinderella by the Geordie Panto Company runs at Gateshead International Stadium from 6 to 29 December. Ticket information:www.ticketsource.co.uk/geordiepanto
