A North East based music promoter has lined up a number of top bands to help bring back the big venue experience to Ashington.
Tony Eastlake who runs Guerilla Events and PA Hire has booked dates at the Northern Social Club in Ashington because of its large stage, impressive capacity and ability to house his powerful sound and light systems. The venue which can hold almost 500 people on two tiers is steeped in musical history as it was the place to go when touring acts including Tom Jones and Shirley Bassey played the 60’s and 70’s clubland scene.
Now however, music fans have to travel further afield to experience professional sound and light shows with the big stage experience.
Tony is bringing some major players to the Northern Social Club including Newcastle funk and soul band and Radio 2 favourites, Smoove and Turrell who start their UK tour at the venue on 20 March. The band have just celebrated a decade in the music business with the release of ‘Solid Brass – 10 Years of Northern Funk’
On 27 March, Shine On, the UK’s premier Pink Floyd tribute band will make maximum use of the large stage with their show while for fans of Ska, fresh from a tour with The Specials, 9 April sees The Skapones play a mix of original songs from their chart-topping album, ‘From the Cradle to the Grave’ plus a selection of well-known two-tone hits.
For pop fans, 24k Bruno 2 Mars’, a tribute to Olly Murs and Bruno Mars takes place Friday 10 April while Queen fans will be rocked on 12 April as renowned tribute act, We Are Champion take to the stage with their renditions of classic tracks from Mercury, May and Co.
Tony is looking forward to hosting the events:
“I spent my formative years in Ashington and loved watching and playing in bands. I was also a boxer and actually fought at the Northern Club so the venue has fond memories for me. I’ll be making sure that these gigs put the venue on the map again with our extending stage, top notch sound system and state of the art lighting. It’ll be a great night out without having to travel into Newcastle,” said Tony.
