New self-catering business wins two awards
A County Durham self-catering cottage has won two awards at the prestigious North East England Tourism Awards.
Bracken Hill Farm Cottage in Hunwick picked up silver for the best self catering property and bronze for the most dog friendly. Owner Angela Fielding is delighted that all of her hard work has been recognised by the awards team.
“We’ve built this cottage from the foundations of an old farm building and we’re very proud to have been recognised for all the hard work we’ve put into making this a luxury self catering holiday venue that is also dog friendly as the two don’t normally go together.”
As a dog owner herself, Angela has listened to her customers needs and put in place many dog friendly features. This is despite having a high specification on furniture, flooring and fitments.
The cottage has wooden floors on one level – ideal for elderly dogs and the garden is secure and filled with gravel and shrubbery so that dogs can explore. If they get dirty, their owners can use the outside shower that is operated with warm water.
“We supply dog name tags, free treats, towels, spare leads, poo bags, bowls, cleaning equipment, baby gates and even a folder showing attractions, walks, pubs, restaurants that are dog friendly,” said Angela.
“We all know that dogs are rightly so, considered part of the family so we’ve also established good links with local vets, dog sitters, obedience/agility trainers and groomers so that visiting dogs have everything they and their owners need quickly and locally. We also provide a shopping service prior to arrival so that all the holidaymaker has to do is relax and enjoy themselves.”
” This is the first time that we’ve entered an award competition and to win two awards is just fantastic.
