Tyne Idols Look North as Bus Heads South

May 21, 2019

Passengers on the next South Tyneside TyneIdols tour will be the first to hear the news – from one of the region’s leading news presenters.

Jarrow’s own Jeff Brown from BBC Look North will be joining the tour straight from the TV studio to give an insight into his role and he’ll also be sharing stories from behind the scenes presenting the news.

Narrated by tour host Ray Laidlaw, the three-hour tour gets its inspiration from the rich mixture of musicians, writers, comedians and actors that hail from the borough of South Tyneside. On-board culture seeking sightseers are promised an entertaining time packed with music, fun, interesting facts, visits to TV locations and even the odd watering hole or two.

The tour takes in everything from Monty Python to Thelma and Louise and George Harrison to Little Mix. Everything and everyone featured all have links to South Tyneside and the team’s research has unearthed some amazing connections, strange coincidences and even a dancing circus animal called Nellie the Elephant.

Jeff Brown is looking forward to the tour: “South Tyneside has always been associated with culture, entertainment and the arts. From Ridley Scott to the Hebburn TV comedy and Joe McElderry to Catherine Cookson, there’s something for everyone. I’m really looking forward to joining everyone on the bus.”

The three-hour trip will have two stops for refreshments at iconic locations linked together with musical gems and of course a running commentary from Ray.
