Tyne Idols Head South

The latest tour to be announced by North Tyneside entertainment tourism business Tyne Idols is heading south – but only across the river through the Tyne Tunnel to South Tyneside.

The three-hour tour gets its inspiration from the rich mixture of musicians, writers, comedians and actors that hail from the borough of South Tyneside. On-board culture seeking sightseers are promised an entertaining time packed with music, fun, interesting facts, visits to TV locations and even the odd watering hole or two.

Tour host Ray Laidlaw is looking forward to the South Tyneside tours which complement the popular Coastal Heroes Tour on the Tyne’s north side which takes in North Shields, Whitley Bay and Blyth and the original Newcastle Gateshead tour which harks back to the days of The Animals, Get Carter and Lindisfarne’s record-breaking concerts at the City Hall.

“This is a brand-new tour and one that our team is very much looking forward to doing. The variety here is amazing from Monty Python to Thelma and Louise and George Harrison to Little Mix, there’s something for everyone on this tour. Everything and everyone we feature all have links to South Tyneside and our research has unearthed some amazing connections, strange coincidences and even a dancing circus animal called Nellie the Elephant.”

The three-hour trip will have two stops for refreshments at iconic locations linked together with musical gems and of course a running commentary from Ray.

The dates for the South Tyneside Coastal Heroes Tours are

Sunday 1 July 1.30pm from Gibraltar Rock Tynemouth and 2pm from Customs House South Shields

Sunday 29 July 1.30pm from Gibraltar Rock Tynemouth and 2pm from Customs House South Shields
