Ultra Radio hits the streets 29th April 2011

Volunteers from Northumberland’s newest radio station are taking to the streets of the County to meet the public and encourage them to learn new skills to help provide a quality, professional radio service for the community.
With only a few weeks before Ultra Radio’s launch on FM on the 7th June, the team of volunteer presenters, administrators and promoters will be visiting Morpeth, Blyth, Ashington and Cramlington to let people know how to tune in and what to expect from the station’s broadcasting output.
Already, the station has had a very high profile within the community attending busy shopping centres, interviewing rock and pop stars and having a major presence at the Cruisefest North East Easter Rally where hundreds of customised cars paraded in Blyth.
Station Director Simon Ferson is delighted with his team of more than 60 volunteers who have rallied around to make sure everything is just perfect before the launch date.
“The spirit of our team is second to none,” said Simon. “Although we are a community radio station, we have a very professional and commercial approach to our programming which we think will help us build up a strong following.”
Indeed, already Ultra Radio has more than 800 followers on its Facebook page which is already rivalling many commercial radio stations even before a single track is played.
“ We have something for everyone on the station, from charts to punk, dance to middle of the road and business to gardening, it’s what South East Northumberland wants and indeed deserves – a professional radio station, run by locals for locals,” said Simon.
The Ultra Radio team will be at the following places in May.
Sat 7th May – Ashington Main Street
Sat 14th May – Morpeth Market Square
Sat 21st May – Blyth Market Sq
Sat 28th May – Cramlington
