Three North Tyneside businesses have been recognised for their work which has had a major impact on people in their local community.
The Heart of the Community Award, part of the annual North Tyneside Business Awards, encourages North Tyneside residents to say ‘thank you’ to a business which has made a significant contribution to their local area. The three finalists were shortlisted after the Business Forum’s management group sifted through dozens of worthy nominations.
The three businesses have all been nominated by members of the public after making a significant contribution to the local area and going the extra mile to be at the heart of the local community. The businesses will find out if they have won the prestigious Heart of the Community Award at the North Tyneside Business Awards Ceremony on 17 November at the Village Hotel.
The finalists are Scentaholic from Howdon, The Square and Compass Bar Café in Whitley bay and Claire’s Family Fitness in Wallsend.
Scentaholic was nominated because of the willingness to help promote other businesses including window cleaners, cake sellers, and handmade crafts, as well as for fund-raising efforts for local charities and good causes.
Square and Compass Bar has been hosting free meet and greet sessions for Ukrainian refugees and helping them to integrate into the local area. The Bar provided employment to at least four Ukrainian guests who have now become part of the community.
Claire’s Family Fitness has made it their business to create a community within the customer base. Actively making changes in children’s lives by teaching them about healthy life choices and also fundraising for a defibrillator which has been installed in the gym.
Chair of the North Tyneside Business Forum Karen Goldfinch said:
“This award comes literally from the heart of the people who use these businesses. The public have nominated them, and they will also pick the winner through voting on the Business Awards website. Voting starts on 1st November and will remain open until 6pm on 17th November and I wish them all the very best of luck, plus I look forward to welcoming them on the night.”
