One of Northumberland’s largest firework festivals has been hailed “out of this world” as more than 22,000 people turned out to watch the free, space themed spectacular.
To commemorate 50 years since man walked on the moon, the festival had a distinctive space theme. Hosted by Blyth Town Council, the free to the public event took place on Saturday 2nd November at Mermaid Car Park. As well as a tremendous firework display which started off with an Apollo mission countdown, there was street theatre, music from Metro Radio, a fun fair and catering facilities. One of the highlights of the spectacular was the word “BLYTH” lit up in fireworks to the amazement of the thousands of onlookers.
Blyth Town Council’s Mayor Warren Taylor said,” This was a well organised and safe event and tremendous fun for the whole family. With our music festival, Easter events and Christmas Light switch on were used to putting Blyth on the map but now we’ve put Blyth’s name up in fireworks too.”
