An award winning fish restaurant is urging other businesses to stand up and shout about their success in the annual North Tyneside Business Awards.
The awards hosted by North Tyneside Business Forum recognise the achievements of the best businesses in the borough and one of last year’s winners, Riley’s Fish Shack at King Edward’s Bay in Tynemouth has gone from strength to strength thanks to the exposure and opportunities winning the award has provided.
Run by husband and wife team, Adam and Lucy Riley, Riley’s Fish Shack started trading as a street vendor back in 2012 at the inaugural Tynemouth Food Festival. Now they employ 15 full-time equivalent staff with seasonal additions in the Fish Shack outlet and at a fish processing premises in Howdon.
Riley’s Fish Shack won the Leisure and Tourism Award whenthey put themselves forward for the award because of the success they’d experienced since opening the Fish Shack.
Adam Riley said: “ Winning the award has opened so many doors to us and the business. We’ve met and struck up relationships with a whole network of supportive and highly-skilled businesses. As a result, we’ve started working with a number of them to grow and expand our core business.
“We’re currently working with the North Shields Fish Quay Company to help in the regeneration of the fish quay. That involves setting up a regular fish market down there to showcase the amazing industry that is fishing in North Shields.
“I’d urge anyone to seriously consider applying if they are North Tyneside based as winning the award has helped our business to grow and thrive.”
Chair of North Tyneside Business Forum, David W Bavaird was delighted in the way that Riley’s had embraced success since winning their prestigious tourism and leisure award:
“Businesses such as Riley’s show why North Tyneside is a great place to live, work and visit. There are many more businesses with similar stories to tell and it’s not too late to enter the awards.”
