Fun dog show sheds puppy status as it turns three
A Tyneside fun dog show is celebrating its third birthday with the prospect of raising around £1000 for a dog related charity.
The Metro Mortgages “Metrodogs Fun Show” will take place on Saturday 21st February at All Saints Sports Centre in Newcastle and all profits will be donated to the Hearing Dogs for Deaf People charity.
The show will feature 30 categories including waggiest tail, prettiest bitch, cuddliest ears and even a fancy dress competition. As well as the fun categories, there will be the traditional type of show dog classes including gundog/working, terrier, hound and best crossbreed.
Hearing Dogs for Deaf People is a national charity that trains hearing dogs to alert deaf people to everyday household sounds and danger signals in the home, work place and in public buildings.
The charity was launched at the world famous Crufts dog show in 1982 and since then, over 1,600 life-changing partnerships between deaf people and hearing dogs in the UK have been created.
The dog show coincides with the charity looking for volunteer home trainers in the Morpeth to Newcastle area. Volunteers would need to care for the dog on a daily basis for the duration of its training, provide food and exercise and allow a trainer to visit on a regular basis to either work with the dog at home, or pick the dog up and take it out for training.
Organiser of the event, Janice Cumberland, whose husband, Graeme owns main sponsors Metro Mortgages, said:
“This is always a great family fun day out. We always make sure that a dog related charity benefits from the generosity of our sponsors, competitors and the general public who come along every year to support us.
“We are delighted that this year we will be helping people who can’t hear for themselves and who use their dogs as their ears. It’s remarkable to watch them at work making life easier and safer for their owners.”
In addition to the dog show, dog related traders will exhibit their goods and refreshments and other items will be on sale throughout the day too.
