Go Wansbeck helps Daffodils to bloom in business

A desire to improve the quality of life for her family and the drive to start her own business has enabled a Bedlington mum to look back at her first year’s trading with pride.
Julie Scott started Daffodil Cleaning last spring after working for a major cleaning company for three years. The company name came about as she was out walking and saw a bunch of Daffodils blowing in the wind and like them, she realised that her cleaning skills made everything spring time fresh.
Starting with just one domestic cleaning contract and the chance of cleaning a holiday cottage she took a major gamble and hasn’t looked back since. Now, her clientele includes regular holiday lets on the beautiful Northumberland coastline and 15 scheduled cleans a week. Julie has recently taken on a part time member of staff and hopes to find another over the coming months.
“Being my own boss has given my family a better quality of life,” said Julie. “I’ve more time with the kids and at weekends, my partner Steve plays on the beach with the children while I clean the holiday lets. It really has made a difference to us all.”
Julie now has plans to extend the business and hopes to be in a position to employ a member of staff in the coming months.
She has received ongoing help and support from the Northumberland County Council supported, Go Wansbeck Enterprise Team and in particular, coach Shirley Wilson who has helped her with planning the business, obtaining a branded vehicle and marketing techniques.

“Julie is an excellent example of how someone who never thought they would be capable of starting their own business can succeed with the right support and attitude to work. We are very pleased with her progress and it’s great to see that Daffodils are blooming in the North East,” said Shirley.
