The People’s Kitchen hosts a unique event to highlight their work by Anya Bramich
A NEWCASTLE charity’s drive to support the homeless in the region is to be celebrated by a unique fundraising evening.
On the evening of Thursday 17 March, the People’s Kitchen, situated on Bath Lane, will throw open its doors and welcome paid guests into the venue for an evening meal – just as it would be served to their regular evening visitors.
Guests will get the chance to experience what it’s like behind the doors of the People’s Kitchen; eat a three course meal prepared by volunteers; learn more about the charity and take part in a typical evening’s social event with some donated prizes.
Colin Herron, Trustee and volunteer at the People’s Kitchen said: ‘The People’s Kitchen has been supporting the homeless and disadvantaged people in Newcastle for 25 years, providing meals each Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday evenings without fail.’
‘This evening is the chance for the Kitchen to highlight its work as well as providing guests with a really unique opportunity to put themselves in someone else’s shoes for a while. There is a very strong community spirit in the Centre and we’ll be looking to recreate this for our guests on the night.”
The kitchen relies entirely on the goodwill of individuals, businesses and community organisations to fund its services so anyone attending on the evening will be helping to raise some essential funds.
The event runs on Thursday, March 17, 2011 from 6:30pm – 9:00pm. The Kitchen will be open to ticket holders only on the night.
Tickets are £20 and can be bought from www.peopleskitchen.co.uk or on the door on the evening.
