Lisa is just the therapy for radio station

Mar 9, 2017

Community radio station, Radio Northumberland based in Cramlington has appointed a new director to help take the station forward.

The station has a wealth of volunteers from all aspects of life and the community including a PR consultant, a community manager, an engineer and a shop worker however, Lisa Etherson’s skills are unique and are being highlighted in a forthcoming late night radio show.

Lisa, from Sunderland is a qualified sex therapist with over 20 years of experience of working with people with emotional difficulties. By entering into her own process of self discovery and emotional healing, Lisa has an authentic approach to therapy, which she uses to help others who are looking for more fulfilling intimate relationships. Having completed a post graduate diploma in psychosexual therapy, Lisa continues to seek out the best approaches in therapy, to ensure that anyone who attends her practice in North Shields receives the best possible experience.

Lisa who has been part of the station’s New Wave With Newman show for more than a year said, I am delighted to have been asked to be a director of the station and I hope that my business experience and knowledge of what makes people act in the way that they do will be beneficial to the station.”

Lisa will present a new late night show with adult content including sexual addictions, physical problems and all things sexual. She will also offer advice to listeners. In her working environment, she takes great care to provide a therapeutic environment that is compassionate and sensitive which ensures that growth and healing take place. She hopes to recreate that atmosphere in the studio so that she can reach out to help listeners.

Due to her extensive experience of addiction, both professionally and personally, Lisa has a special interest in pornography and sex addiction. She firmly believes that it is possible to recover from addiction, however often help is needed from others to do this.

“I believe people are capable of making great changes but sometimes a bit of help is needed, and being able to talk openly about what is troubling you is the best place to start. Often people find sex therapy extremely refreshing and a huge relief, as it gives an opportunity to talk about things that we feel we must keep secret. To feel that you are being heard and seen by someone who understands how difficult sex and relationships can be is extremely powerful and brings about great healing.

“We’ll be covering these subjects and more in out late night show which will start in the spring. I’m encouraging listeners to get in touch so that I can pre-record their questions and concerns.”

The success of Radio Northumberland isn’t just about having good presenters and programme schedules. The station is now looking for people to volunteer with specific skills such as accountancy, admin, telephone answering, office skills and facilities management.
