Once again, the best of North Tyneside’s businesses have been showcased at the glittering North Tyneside Business Awards which celebrated its 26th anniversary.
The annual awards, which are organised by North Tyneside Business Forum, celebrate the huge contribution that businesses make to the local economy and how they make North Tyneside a great place to live, work and visit. The ceremony was held at the Village Hotel, Cobalt Park and was attended by members of the business community and hosted by TV presenter Rachel Sweeney.
This year there were five categories with the winner of each being automatically entered into the prestigious ‘Business of the Year’ award. The winners of each category were:
New Business –Whitley Bay’s Aly’s Bakery has shown a significant and promising start since its launch in January 2022. Their business plan demonstrated Aly’s commitment not only to restoring the bakery but also to injecting new life, community engagement, and a dedication to preserving the heritage of the site. Additionally, the business’s unique initiative of offering individual buns rather than whole packs showcases a commitment to affordability and value for customers, fostering a sense of community and inclusivity.
Retail & Service Provider – North Shields based Collingwood Insurance Services Ltd has been honoured with multiple insurance choice awards, showcasing their consistent excellence in customer service, treating customers fairly, and overall best car insurance provider. This sustained recognition by industry experts and customers alike underscores their commitment to providing outstanding service. They have recently rebranded to reflect their customer base and achieved an impressive 4.8 rating on Trustpilot, marking them as ‘Excellent’ on the platform. Collingwood’s strategic plans for growth in 2023 and 2024, include the implementation of a new digital communications solution, a brand-new website, and improvements in system capability.
Technology Innovation – Insulcon Technical is a specialist in technical insulation and passive fire protection based in North Shields . They export innovative products to over 30 countries, and have effectievely positioned North Tyneside on the global stage, showcasing their international influence and reach. Products include AeroLite, the world’s thinnest insulation jacket which exemplifies Insulcon Technical’s pioneering spirit, providing significant space and weight savings for clients.
Heart of the Business – Jean Watts, from Bright and Beautiful Housekeeping and Domestic Cleaning Services based in Rake Lane consistently exceeds her job expectations, earning high praise from colleagues and customers alike. She provides training, mentorship, and sets an exemplary standard for her fellow employees. She is held in the highest regard by both employees and customers for consistently going above and beyond.
Action on Climate Change – Whitley Bay Big Local have installed a highly insulated roof not only enhancing energy efficiency but also setting a precedent for sustainable construction practices. The integration of solar panels into the hub’s infrastructure showcases Whitley Bay Big Local’s dedication to utilising clean energy sources, contributing not only to surplus electricity for the community but also to a significant reduction in the carbon footprint. They have embedded “green thinking” into the core of their organisational principles emphasising a holistic approach to sustainability.
The “North Tyneside Business of the Year” award for 2023 went to Insulcon Technical
for their multifaceted approach to innovation, global influence, and commitment to promoting technological advancement in their industry. Their investment in state-of-the-art 3D and advanced CAD software reflects Insulcon Technical’s commitment to leveraging cutting-edge digital tools, streamlining design processes, and enhancing efficiency in insulation and fire protection systems.Earning the trust of industry giants like BP and Shell underscores Insulcon Technical’s technological prowess and excellence in delivering solutions that meet the stringent demands of high-profile clients.
Managing Director Chris Evans said: “ This is unbeleiveable ,we’re a global business but to be recognised locally is a great accolade. On behalf of of all our team and our customers we’re delighted. It is a massive honour.”
There was also the Heart of the Community Award which was nominated and voted for by the public to recognise businesses which go the extra mile to look after their local community. The finalists were Fiona Surrey Marketing, Di- meos Ice Cream Parlour and Tynemouth Decorators The most votes went to Tynemouth Decorators.

We have an incredible pool of talent ranging from small businesses serving their local community to industry sector leaders delivering products across the world.
