Dickens Classic “A Christmas Carol” Embarks on Tour to Bring Theatre to Rural Communities
Northumberland Theatre Company is thrilled to announce the touring production of Charles Dickens’ timeless classic, “A Christmas Carol.” The decision to take the show on the road comes from a desire to make theatre more accessible to rural communities across the North East.
Last year’s adaptation of “A Christmas Carol” received rave reviews and positive audience feedback, prompting the decision to share the joy of the production with a wider audience this year. The play, featuring a small but talented cast, will visit various locations, allowing rural audiences the opportunity to experience the same show that captivated audiences in the heart of Newcastle last Christmas.
The three-person cast includes Charles Dickens and Ebenezer Scrooge portrayed by Louis Roberts. Joining him are the exceptional Melanie Dagg, known for her work in Macbeth and last year’s adaptation, and Dean Logan, currently wowing audiences in Gerry and Sewell at Live Theatre. The Dickens novella has been adapted and reimagined into a family friendly production by talented writer Stewart Howson.
The tour kicks off in Cockburnspath in the Borders on 1st December, traverses through Cumbria and Northumberland, and concludes with performances in Newcastle, including a unique stop at the Prohibition Cabaret Bar. The Northumberland Theatre Company, true to its name, is committed to bringing theatre to locations where access might be limited.
“We wanted to reach our rural audience who may have missed out last year in Newcastle. Taking ‘A Christmas Carol’ on tour is our way of making theatre more inclusive and bringing the magic of Dickens to diverse communities,” says Louis, the lead actor, and Artistic Director of the Northumberland Theatre Company.
The tour spans various dates and locations, with the finale on December 23rd and 24th in Capheaton. Detailed information about the tour, venues, and ticket links can be found on the company’s website, www.northumberlandtheatre.co.uk, or on their Facebook page, NTC Theatre.
Louis emphasised the significance of the production during the holiday season: ” There’s no Yuletide tale more classic than ‘A Christmas Carol, It’s a long-standing tradition, offering comfort and familiarity. In these challenging times, the story’s themes of redemption and family resonate deeply. We want families, especially those with limited access to theatre, to share in the magic of ‘A Christmas Carol’ this holiday season. They will find it is a unique experience that will truly evoke the pre-Christmas spirit for everyone involved.”
