A North East property lawyer has used her own conveyancing skills to move into new offices with a historical link her to her profession.
Sue Toomey has moved her Toomey Legal practice to Cramlington Village where she has taken over the Surveyors House which first appeared in maps of the town in the mid 1800s.
The building was previously a family home, a quarry office and an undertaker’s home for the nearby St Nicholas Church.
Originally a lawyer for a Sheffield law practice, Sue set up her own property law firm in 2001 before moving to the north east. Toomey Legal was founded in 2015 in Corbridge then moved to Cramlington’s Fergy Space where the company expanded and needed even more space hence the move.
Business has grown by 200 percent year on year and Sue now has eight staff including an accountant and a will writer. During lockdown she used the time to train her staff and invested heavily in gaining qualifications for her team.
“The new building has a lot of character and it’s appropriate that we as property lawyers are in a surveyors house. It’s a great place to be able to meet as a team and reengage the family feel we had before lockdown,” said Sue. ‘We’d also like to utilise our extensive gardens which used to be an old quarry for the benefit of the community when circumstances allow. We’d like to help charities and community groups by running events in our gardens.”
Toomey Legal is renowned for their work across a broad range of property law matters particularly with commercial and residential property law and it has nurtured links with many of the region’s estate agents. Committed to providing a personal service based on fixed fees rather than recorded time, the business also specialises in dealing with rental issues and has a solid reputation with seasoned investors.
As part of Will Aid 2020, the firm are volunteering their time and expertise for writing basic wills during November.
