The original front man of one of the world’s biggest rock bands will be playing Newcastle next week supported by one of the North East’s most promising talents.
Dave Evans joined AC-DC in 1973 before being replaced by Bon Scott and then Newcastle born Brian Johnson after Scott’s death in 1980. Since leaving the band in 1974, Evans has continued to entertain crowds with his showmanship and driving vocals and now fans in Newcastle will be able to witness the heavy rock sensation for themselves at Trillians on May 20th.
Along with hotly tipped band “Falling Red”, support for the evening comes from North Shields based band, The Refreshers who are also about to release their debut single” Life” on Diamond Life Records.
The Refreshers, who took their name from the sweets of the same name are fronted by Blondiesque sounding Blottie on vocals, Alvin on drums and vocals, Zak on bass and Iggy on guitar. Having already established themselves as a driving force in the punk pop genre by supporting established acts such as Bez from the Happy Mondays and Bonehead from Oasis, they are looking forward to the Dave Evans gig on home turf.
“We’ve toured all over the country and had a tremendous response everywhere we’ve been but now we have a chance to show our own home city what we can do,” said Blottie. “This will be a great opportunity for us as there will be a lot of interest from the music business at this gig.”
The band release their debut single later this summer and already they have received praise from Paul Tippler, producer of bands such as Placebo, Idlewild and The Charlatans. “The Refreshers music is a mixture of heavy and pop with simple arrangements, I really like the catchy choruses and strong riffs,” he said.
Things are really looking sweet for the Refreshers and you can catch them at Trillians on Thursday 20th May.
