Stage is Set for Sammy’s Weekend at the Coast

Jun 27, 2023

The inaugural Coastella Festival gets underway this weekend from 30 June to 2 July, with the highly anticipated outdoor event set to captivate music loving audiences in the heart of North Tyneside.

Showcasing an array of amazing original artists, this new festival promises to be a vibrant celebration of music and talent. Coastella Festival takes place at Percy Park RFC in North Shields and has a focus on original artists, with an aim to provide a platform for both established acts and new talent. Through its diverse line-up and immersive atmosphere, Coastella offers a unique and unforgettable experience for music enthusiasts.

Headlining the event are acts such as The Futureheads, Mystery Jets, Hector Gannet, and Liam Fender, who are sure to deliver unforgettable performances. In addition to these established artists, Coastella is proud to introduce its Sunday for Sammy Stage dedicated to showcasing emerging talent.

The Sunday for Sammy Stage provides a platform for young artists who have never had the opportunity to appear at a festival before. The stage will serve as a hotbed of North East talent, introducing the region’s up-and-coming musicians to a wider audience. The line-up includes promising acts such as Hayley McKay, Nadedja, Mat Hunsley, Chris Davison, Iris Brickfield, Eve Cole, Katie Grace, Charlotte Kennedy, and many more.

To make this line up possible, Ray Laidlaw from Sunday for Sammy reached out to some of the artists previously supported by the Trust, including Sunderland’s The Futureheads, who generously shared their opinions and advice on some of the local talent that they believe is poised to make waves in the music scene.

Ray, former drummer of Lindisfarne and a respected figure in the music industry, expressed his admiration for the wealth of local talent supported by the Trust.

“It’s truly inspiring to witness the incredible pool of talent that we have in our region. The Sunday for Sammy Trust has nurtured many young musicians and performers in the past and those performing at this weekend’s Coastella Festival are destined for great things as they already have the necessary talent. I’d encourage festival-goers to keep an eye out for them and support them on their exciting journey hopefully right to the top.

“When people buy tickets for our shows or buy the subsequent Sunday for Sammy DVD’s, we use the funds to give young talent a helping leg up into the entertainment business. Everyone who has supported us in the past is now contributing to a young person’s future and we are extremely grateful,” added Ray.
